Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Ian S. Robertson, 65, died Dec. 14, 2011, with his loving wife, daughter and grandson at his side at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
A celebration of life in honor of Ian will be held at a later date with family and friends.
Ian was born May 6, 1946, in Tanganyika, East Africa to James and Anne (Johansen) Robertson.
Ian attended trade school in Hemmingford, Quebec, Canada, and received an Arts and Science Associate Degree from the College of Lake County, Ill. Ian served his country during Vietnam with the military police for two tours. Ian was stationed at Fort Richardson from 1972 to 1975 and later moved his family to Wasilla in 1986.
Ian was hard-working, serving 20 years in the military, 20 years as customer service in newspaper advertising and five years as a security officer. Ian retired from the Alaska Army Guard in September 1996 and became a life member of VFW and AMVETS. He enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour and doing crossword puzzles.
The family wishes to extend its appreciation to the staff at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for its care and compassion this past month. They also thank Grace Presbyterian pastor and family members.
Preceding Ian in death were his parents, James and Anne Robertson.
Surviving are his loving wife, Kathleen J. Robertson of Wasilla; daughter, Jo Ann Robertson of Wasilla; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Rebekah Robertson of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandson, Gabreal Robertson of Wasilla; brother, Jim Robertson of British Columbia, Canada; brother, David Robertson of Quebec, Canada; and sister, Jeanette Robertson of New Brunswick, Canada.
Valley Funeral Home and Crematory cared for the family.
