Irma Mae Arrants

Irma passed away peacefully at her home in Wasilla in November 2020. Her Inupiaq name, Tulaviqiaq (Tel-i-va-kak), meant “a place to land” and her journey from here has landed her safely in the arms of the Lord. She received care in her home with family showering her with love after a lifelong of service to them.

She was born in Kiana on the Kobuk River to John and Ella Wright, the second of four children. At an early age, her family moved to Livengood where her father worked at FE Gold Dredge while her mother was hospitalized for tuberculosis. She settled in Fairbanks as an adult and started her family. Irma kept in close contact with her children, spread out from Alaska to Washington to Vermont, and was a loving mom and nana who never missed a birthday or Christmas. She was a devoted friend with many lifelong friendships that provided laughter, joy and solace throughout her life. Her life was full of love for her family, friends, pets, and flower gardens.

Irma is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Johnny. She leaves behind her husband, David, with whom she celebrated her Golden 50th anniversary in June; siblings, Helen and Vernon; her Woods’ children, Kenneth, Alfred Jr., Monica, Craig and Cynthia; oldest daughter, Drucilla Dickerson, and youngest child, Kenny Arrants, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Fairbanks at the Northern Lights Memorial Park June 18, 2021.
