James Edward Smith

July 31, 1949 - June 10, 2024

James Edward Smith (Smitty) passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024 with family by his side. Jim was born in Carbondale, PA on July 31, 1949. He was 74 years old at the time of his death.

Jim is survived by his wife Jamie, daughter Cassandra (Kacey), grandson August Hansen, daughter Danielle (Dani) all of OR, and his son Jason Fortuner of PA, He is also survived by his brother Roger Smith, along with many other family members and friends in PA.

Jim was a highly skilled appliance repair technician by trade, able to repair a wide variety of appliances. His repair skills didn't end there, though. He could fix most anything that needed fixing. When Jim and a buddy were ice fishing at Paxson Lake, the battery on his truck was too low to start the truck. With a bit of wire and a couple of alligator clips, Jim jump started the truck from the battery on the snow machine to the surprise of his buddy.

An avid golfer, Jim was a member of the Wednesday Night Golf Assoc. and would play any time he could get a foursome together. He was also a member of the Mat-Su Dart Assoc., playing in either hard tip or soft tip leagues. His love for the outdoors often found him fishing, hunting, or camping. He was also a fantastic cook, no matter if it was a large pot of spaghetti sauce to serve several or a special dinner just for two.

Jim enjoyed life and gently teasing folks with a twinkle in his eye. It goes without saying that Jim will be missed by family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
