Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

James “Jim” F. Sizemore, 79, passed away quietly and comfortably in his sleep on July 3, 2017 at Sunrise Manor, in Palmer, Alaska.
Jim was born to Eugene and Blanche Sizemore on December 3, 1937 in Post Falls, Idaho. He attended grade school and high school in Post Falls, and went to North Idaho Jr. College in Coeur d’Alene, and finished up at the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID. After graduation in 1958, he joined to Corps of Engineers. He worked on the John Day Dam in Oregon. He came to Alaska in 1962, worked on the Atomic Energy project on Amchitka, also did assessment of damage after the 1964 earthquake. He worked for Bureau of Land Management and was part of the committee to write the environmental stipulations for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Service. Once the pipeline was completed, he worked for the Office of the Federal Inspector-enforcing those stipulations. In 1969 he met Carol Storms, a nurse at Alaska Native Medical Center. They were married in 1970 and had 2 sons John and Greg.
Jim was an avid Skier (both downhill and cross country), loved to hike, and would spend any time off during summers to fish, fish, fish Halibut, Salmon, Trout, Steelhead and ? Hooligan? What? Oh no not Hooligan!! One of his greatest passions was CRIBBAGE. He would play every day if he could. He was a member of the American Cribbage Congress and has many wonderful, faithful friends through this group.
Jim is survived by wife Carol of Palmer, Alaska; sons John (wife Delia) of Anchorage, Alaska, and Greg of Broomfield, Colorado; sisters Shirley Carrico and her son Wayne, daughter Susan Lundquist (husband Bill) of Moscow, Idaho, Ann Johnson( husband Norm) of Spring, Texas and their sons and daughters Kevin, Mark, Julie and Deborah.
He was preceded in death by his parents Blanche and Eugene; sister Marjorie Seaking; brothers Donald and Edward.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Christ 1st United Methodist Church, 5137 W Fairview Loop, Wasilla, Alaska 99654. Celebration will also take place later this summer in Moscow Idaho. His ashes will be scattered in the Kenai/ Russian Rivers and then in the rolling hills of Idaho’s Palouse Country which he loved.
