James Vance Lamson, 55, died Sept. 30, 2007, from cancer at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
A celebration of Lamson’s life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Eagle River Lions Club, Mile 2 Eagle River Road.
Lamson was born March 30, 1952, in LaJunta, Colo. He came to Alaska in 1964 and worked as a commercial fisherman from 1968-2003, first living in Anchorage, then for the past four months in Big Lake. Lamson, his family and a caravan of friends drove the Alcan in 1964 and he remained a resident of Anchorage until a recent move to Big Lake, where he built his mother a home.
He loved the outdoors and worked as a commercial fisherman and construction worker, and he was an avid amateur prospector. He grew raspberry plants and was always willing to share his knowledge of gardening. Lamson was an outspoken free spirit and did things his way.
Lamson is survived by mother, Bernice, of Anchorage; and brothers Orville of Big Lake, Earl of Hawaii and Lewis of Eagle River. His father, Earl, preceded him in death.
Valley Funeral Homes and Crematory of Wasilla and Palmer assisted the family.
