Long time Wasilla resident, James Richard Humphrey, passed away April 25, 2022 at Mat Su Regional Hospital. James was 84, he was born in 1937 in Great Falls, Montana to Milton and Agnes Humphrey. He graduated high school in 1956. James’s railroading career started in 1953 with the Great Northern Railroad. In 1959 he married Myra Lensing in Troy, Montana. In 1961 he served in the army for 2 years, after an honorable discharge he returned to the railroad. In 1968 James and Myra moved to Alaska where he worked for the Alaska Railroad until his retirement in 1989. In 1992 Myra passed away after a long medical condition. In 1993 James remarried Gudrun (Greta) Deemer who passed away in 2016. James was a loving husband and father who was an avid hunter, fisherman, and quilter; he opened up his home to many foster children, he coached little league and hockey. James had a most admirable work ethic. He had a kind heart and was always willing to help. James is survived by his son and fiancée Steven Humphrey and Shyanna Mulholland; daughter and son in law, Roxane and Charles Strange from James’s first marriage, and Jacci Adams, Hans Deemer, Billie Rae Deemer, and Jason Deemer from James’s second marriage, and 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Donations can be made to the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla, Alaska in lieu of flowers.
