Long time Palmer resident James Robert Ortman, 66, passed away October 17, 2016 at Mat-Su Regional Hospital. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
James was born February 13, 1950 in Slayton, Minnesota. He was raised in Minnesota and moved to Alaska in 1983. James met his wife Cheryl in 1977 and they were married Leap year of 1988. James worked as a contractor in Saudi Arabia, for the Centel Phone Co. in Minnesota and for MTA in Alaska as a cable splicer for 24 ½ years. James retired from MTA in 2007. James enjoyed riding his Harley with ‘B.B.’
James will be missed by his wife Cheryl (AKA ‘B.B.’); mother, Lois Ortman; sister, Kim Gronjes; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews on both sides; and all his special friends. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Ortman.
