Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Long time Wasilla resident James Stewart Egbert, 69, passed away Jan. 24, 2018, at home. A service will be held at Kings Chapel 1701 North Lucille Street Wasilla, Alaska. Viewing at 12 p.m. With service at 1 p.m. And burial to take place at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery.
Jim was born May 30, 1948 in Clovis California to Alvin and Lela Egbert. He graduated from Fresno High School. Enlisted in the army in 1969 and served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1971 He married Kay Egbert on May 30, 1997, His best friend and the love of his life. He owned E&E automotive in Long Beach, California with his brother before moving to Wasilla Alaska in June of 1981. He built E&E Automotive on Wasilla Fishhook Road and served the community until he retired in May 2005. Jim loved his family, friends and his country. He had a passion for gold dredging and he spent summers in Hope Alaska until he could no longer physically do the work. In his retirement years he loved gardening and keeping his yard green. At the time of his death he was serving as the commander of AMVETS Post #9 in Wasilla.
He is survived by wife Kay Egbert, his two children from his first marriage, Tony Egbert and Kristen Reynolds of Wasilla, two stepsons Greg Phillipsen and Forrest Phillipsen of Wasilla, six grandchildren Alexis, Ashlee and A J Egbert, Mason, Kade and Thailyn Reynolds, five step grandchildren Race Ramsey, Jaden and Ivan Phillipsen, Mason and Madison Philipsen. Jim is preceded in Death by his mother Lela, dad Alvin and step daughter Bethany Ramsey.
