Lorraine was always a worker bee. She had to be busy all the time. She had hobbies of making things like quilts, baby blankets, pajamas, robes, hats, gloves etc. Other hobbies included collecting stamps, coins, elephants, guns, old sewing machines and more. Only about 5% of what she did in life was for herself, the other 95% was for others, including strangers. One of her favorite things to do was to buy a meal for strangers anonymously. She would pick a family where the children were well behaved, pay their bill and tell the waiter not to tell them, until we were gone.
Any meal Lorraine made at home, be it ham, spaghetti, fried chicken, or stew, she always made enough for Amy’s family and siblings. When Amy decided to have a family, Lorraine helped her be the best mom she could. Whatever project Amy had, she also had Lorraine as a helper. Lorraine would make and take things to anyone she knew that was sick, injured or grieving.
Lorraine was an avid hunter and took her own deer and elk. She enjoyed it greatly. When Lorraine and I were much younger with more energy, we volunteered to be foster parents. We took classes to help care for and raise these children. I never knew what would be waiting at home. I remember one time we were taking care of her mother after her hip replacement, when we took in a mother and her five children that the father had beaten and put in the hospital. We had 8 foster children at the time. So busy, but Lorraine kept it going like a top.
I miss her so much!
