Jan Peter Torgny Stalmarck

Jan Peter Torgny Stalmarck, 71, passed away at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, Alaska, on Oct. 14, 2017.

Jan was born in Helsingborg, Sweden on Oct. 14, 1946. He embarked on adventure with his uncle, moving to Alaska in 1963. Jan joined the US Army and served with the 5th Special Forces Group during Vietnam. Following his time in the military, Jan returned to Alaska, making Wasilla his permanent home. A true “jack-of-all-trades”, he spent his life working with electronic components, running cameras for Channel 2, fixing office equipment for Barrett’s Office Supply, and opening AlTech. Jan retired in 1989 and spent his days raising his son.

His family will remember Jan as always having a way to fix anything, always being up for a good conversation, and passing along his knowledge to anyone that would listen. He spent his free time reading countless books, fishing, and “tinkering.”

Jan is survived by his son Severin (Kayla) Stalmarck of Alaska; daughter Erica Stalmarck of Oregon; daughter Shay (Edward) Williams of Virginia; granddaughter Kristina Snell of Alaska; grandsons Mason Sanders, Wyatt and Viggo Stalmarck all of Alaska; niece Pernilla (Steve) Werninger of Wisconsin; nephew Jan Philip (Courtney) Holstrom of Washington; cousin Ulf (Sue) Safve of Oregon and many family members in Sweden.

He is preceded in death by his mother AnnaLisa Safve; uncle Rune Safve; and aunt UllaBritt Engkvist.

Arrangements cared for by Janssen’s Mat-Su Funeral Home.

A celebration of life will be scheduled for Summer of 2018.
