Janet Dolores Hines Castle

Janet Dolores Hines Castle, 56, of Wasilla, died Sept. 15, 2013, at home. A celebration of life is at 4 p.m., Oct. 6 at the Wasilla Assembly of God, 125 W. Riley off Knik-Goose Bay Road. Dr. Lattis Campbell will officiate.

Janet was born in Ocala, Fla., June 14, 1957, to William and Betty Hines. She attended her early school years in Florida and graduated high school in Houston, Texas. She worked in the electronics industry in Houston, and was also a bartender there. Janet also taught pre-school and kindergarten in Houston. She was a model for Guys and Dolls Modeling Agency in Houston. She was a Sunday School teacher at Sugarland Methodist Church in Sugarland, Texas.

Janet met Jon Castle in Houston, Texas. They were married Dec. 21, 1983, in Livingston, Texas. Jon and Janet moved to Alaska in 1991, residing in Anchorage, Butte, Palmer, Big Lake and currently in Wasilla.

Janet enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and being outdoors. She also enjoyed watching movies and spending as much time as she could with her beautiful German shepherd, Kasper. She attended church at Wasilla Assembly of God.

Janet was loved by all who knew her. She was a loving and caring person, always willing to help those in need. She put others’ needs before hers. She was definitely the sunshine in many people’s lives. Lynn Marie Daaboul, a niece, wrote the following special tribute to Janet:

“Like wild horses, her spirit was a fierce force of nature, bestowing a heart as radiantly big and bright as the sun. A thousand ‘I Love Yous’ was simply never too much for a woman who just couldn’t say it enough. It was evident that her mother loved her most, just as mothers do. Her siblings shared a bond with her, like the beauty of a perfect storm, unbreakably strong and everlastingly long. Her nieces and nephews were the children she never had, recipients of all the maternal love she never hesitated to offer. But mainly, and most importantly, the greatest love of all was shared between her best friend and husband, the amazing man that never let her fall.”

Janet is survived by her husband, Jon of Wasilla; mother, Betty Newell of Houston, Texas; brothers, Gene Veazey Jr. of Monticello, Randy Lawson of Caravell, Fla., Joey (Blanca) Veazey of Houston, Texas; sister, Carol Daaboul (Jimmy) of Houston, Texas; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins; and her beloved German shepherd, Kasper.

She was preceded in death by her father, William W. Hines; step-father, Tom Newell; sister, Nancy Hines; brother-in-law, Richard Todd; cousins, Dean and Tina Lawson; uncles, Ray, Earl and Raymond Lawson; and grandparents, Joe and Nellie Lawson.

A service is at 11 a.m., Oct. 12, at the Oak Lake Baptist Church in Sugarland, Texas.
