Lifelong Palmer resident Janet Joyce Lewis, 80, died Dec. 21, 2012, at her home.
A memorial service in memory of Janet is planned at a later date.
Janet was born March 13, 1932, in Battle Creek, Mich., to Max and Dorothy Sherrod.
The family wrote, “Janet Lewis came to Alaska in 1935 at the age of 3 on the steamship Northstar with her parents, Max and Dorothy Sherrod, as part of the original farm colony. She grew up on her parent’s farm in north Palmer, which is now the Sherrod Elementary School and ball field complex.”
In 1950 she married Wendell Lewis and they raised four children at their home on Cornelius Lake. She loved to skate and water ski on the lake.
Janet was a vivacious woman who liked to cook, dance and entertain. She worked for many years at the White Alice site on Engstrom Road. She married George Ludwick in 1984. They enjoyed traveling and loved having friends and family come stay with them at their home on Sherrod Drive. Janet loved being outdoors and spent many hours planting flowers and feeding the birds. Most of all, Janet was a great mother and friend to many. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were special to her and she loved when they came to visit.”
Surviving are her children, Brad Lewis (wife Pam), Diana Licht (husband Philip), Beverly Lewis and Valerie Rahn (husband Don); nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Diana Licht, 445 Sitka Rose Circle A, Palmer, AK 99645.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family encourages friends and family to give a flower to someone special.
