Janet R. (Jennings) Howard

Janet R. (Jennings) Howard died peacefully in her sleep at home on April 11, 2014, of natural causes.

Jan was born on Aug. 14, 1928, in Weiser, Idaho, to John William and Ida Mae Jennings. She grew up on a farm just west of Nyssa, Ore., and graduated from Nyssa High School in 1946.

In 1949, while working for the Idaho Power Company, she met and married Willard “Bill” J. Howard. To this union, six children were born. Their final home together was in Donald, Ore., where Bill passed away in 1970. Jan had an adventuresome spirit, and in 1984 she sold her home and made her last stop in life in Palmer.

Jan was soon employed at the Palmer Hotel and was affectionately known as the “Pie Lady”, some of her pies having been Grand Prize winners at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer.

Surviving are her sons, Dan, Robin and Jon; and daughters, Susan and Carrie; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and cherished friends.

Preceding her in death was her son, Grady, who died in 2013.

The family wishes to express their thanks to all who worked so hard so that she remain in her home. May God bless the Hospice nurses and caregivers, Louis at “Meals On Wheels,” Pastor Paul and her most loving son, Jon.
