Javier Humberto Perez Jr., 12, died May 19, 2011, after a structure fire at his Wasilla home.
Javi was born April 16, 1999, in Harlingen, Texas, and spent most of his life in Wasilla. He attended Iditarod Elementary School and Wasilla Middle School, where he was in the sixth grade.
Javi enjoyed building elaborate creations with Legos and playing with his dog, Mishy, guinea pig, Maxine, and cat, Rosie. Some of the family’s fondest memories are times they spent together on camping and fishing trips throughout Alaska.
Javi is survived by his mother and sister, Miranda and Hanna Denton of Wasilla; his father and paternal grandmother; grandparents, Steve and Liz Denton of Healy; aunt, Marmian Grimes and cousins Austin, Sierra and Lauren; great-grandparents, Helen and Pedro Denton, and Joyce Migchelbrink; and a large extended family in Alaska, Ohio and Texas.
Preceding him in death was his great-grandfather Ted Migchelbrink.
The family has been spending time together sharing stories, looking at photos and videos, and remembering the times Javi’s quirky comments and goofy antics made everyone laugh. Miranda and Hanna are grateful for the outpouring of support they have received from friends, colleagues and community members in the wake of this tragedy and for the efforts of emergency responders, hospital personnel and the Red Cross.
A memorial service is at 2 p.m., June 4 at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel, 1015 South Check St. in Wasilla.
In lieu of flowers, an account to help Miranda and Hanna with expenses has been set up at AlaskaUSA Federal Credit Union under “Miranda Denton” or “Benefit for the Denton Family.” Account and routing numbers are available by emailing Marmian Grimes at alasnindeed@gmail.com. Condolences can also be sent via mail to: Miranda Denton, Box 875202, Wasilla, AK 99687.
