Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Jean Laura Poole, 86, passed away June 17, 2015, at her home surrounded by family.
Jean married Thomas Poole in 1964 and was happily married for 44 years. Her career was varied and extensive. She was a registered nurse for 14 years and then continued her career as a Classification Specialist/Personnel Officer for 33 years with the Federal Government. Jean had a strong faith and was instrumental in building the Wasilla Seventh-day Adventist Church. In her spare time, she volunteered countless hours in her church and communities. She worked with various federal and state disaster relief agencies; was an adult education tutor; and was a bookkeeper for a local electrical contracting company. Her greatest joy was in helping and inspiring others.
Jean is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Debbie (Dennis) Lamoreaux of Vernal, Utah; son, Travis (Susan) Brennan of Scappoose, Oregon; daughter, Glenna Brennan of Olympia, Washington; daughter, Terri (Les) Stewart of Philippines; son, Randy Poole of Halfway, Oregon; and loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., June 22 at the Alaska Heritage Memorial Chapel, 1015 S Check St, Wasilla. Burial will follow at noon at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. A celebration of life follows at 3 p.m. at the Wasilla Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2101 Lucille St., Wasilla.
