Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Jeanne Rae Bennett, 63, of Wasilla, died March 7, 2014, at home after a four-year battle with cancer. Memorial services are planned in Idaho at a later date.
Jeanne was born May 18, 1950, in Medford, Ore., where she attended schools and later received her nursing certificate. Jeanne became a resident of Alaska in 1999, residing in Wasilla. For many years she was in the nursing field, and the last 18 years was a contractor.
Jeanne’s special interests included crafts, sewing and making quilts for family and friends. She also enjoyed doing genealogy work.
Jeanne was the caretaker of her family and her friends. She was the glue that held the family together. She had a tough exterior followed by a soft heart full of love and compassion.
Surviving are her husband, Norman, of Wasilla; sons, Charlie Skalicky (Daylene) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Randy Skalicky Sr. (Dorothea) of Lewiston, Idaho, Jasen Skalicky (Sherri) of Lewiston, Idaho, and Paul Skalicky of Wasilla; sisters, Silvia (Gary) of Spokane, Wash., and Louise Worley of Seaside, Ore.; 45 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and her former husband.
Memorial donations may be sent in Jeanne’s name to 425 E. Silver Fox Lane, Wasilla, AK 99654.
