Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Lifelong Alaskan Jeannette Lee “Nettie” Doshen died Oct. 31, 2008 at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family after a nearly year-long battle with cancer. She was 64.
Doshen was a member of Blessed Theodore of Romzha Byzantine Catholic Church in Wasilla and St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church in Anchorage.
A memorial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Bogard Road in Wasilla on Friday at 7 p.m. Father Mike Hornick will officiate. A celebration of Jeannette’s life will follow the ceremony. A private viewing was held Sunday for immediate family. At her request, her ashes will be interred at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Wasilla.
Jeannette was born Feb. 7, 1944 in Seward to Eugene and Thelma “Tommy” Morris. She spent most of her childhood in Seward but also resided in Cooper Landing and Fairbanks for a short time. She was a cheerleader in high school and was involved in the pep club as well. She was voted as the best dancer of her class. She graduated in 1962 and shortly after married childhood friend Joe Paul Doshen. She also reached her ambition to be a beautician and owned her own salon for a time. In 1963 they welcomed their first child, Joe Paul Doshen III. She also survived the Good Friday Earthquake that took place in 1964 while still living in Seward.
In 1972, they moved to Anchorage and welcomed their second child Brandi DeLoyce Doshen. From then on Jeannette devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mom and housewife which she enjoyed dearly. In 1981, the family moved to Wasilla and still resides there.
One of the main interests Jeannette had was to read. She loved reading with a passion. She also enjoyed the outdoors in the summer tending to her greenhouse, gardens and flower beds. She also loved old black-and-white movies and an assortment of different genres of music. She enjoyed playing the piano when she was able to, but her main priority and enjoyment was spending time with her family and grandchildren any chance that was available.
“Jeannette was a devout Catholic and an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and in all other aspects. She was an excellent listener and always had a smile even through times of pain. She loved unconditionally with all her heart and we are honored to have been loved by her. We will miss her dearly now that she has begun her spiritual life at peace with our Heavenly Father,” he family wrote.
Jeannette is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joe P. Doshen; daughter and son-In-law, Brandi Doshen-Scheuner and Troy Scheuner of Wasilla; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Cindy Doshen of Troy, Ill.,; brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Carol Negovan of Oregon; sister-in-law, Helen “Bup” Olson of Washington and grandchildren, Vincent, Kenny, Amanda, Joe IV, Danielle and Deanna as well as many extended family members in Idaho and many cherished friends.
