Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Jed Bill Lewis, 62, died unexpectedly July 10, 2014, at his home in Wasilla. He was the father of Conor Ray and beloved son of Lt. Col. William John Lewis and Irene Emily Lewis (nee Blinkman).
Jed was born Sept. 20, 1951, the sixth of eight children.
He was predeceased by his father William John Lewis; his older brother, John B. Lewis; and niece Jessica Lewis Lustine.
Jed graduated from Trimont High School, Trimont, Minnesota in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Jed worked as a king crab fisherman. He attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks to pursue his passion for geology, later working for various companies in Alaska, Hawaii, South America and Antarctica.
In his personal time, Jed was an adventurer, Master Gardener, fisherman, humorist and raconteur, chef extraordinaire, prospector, author, musician, philosopher and a gentleman. His extensive travels provided the opportunity to make many wonderful, life-long friends. He once said that the whole world was his neighborhood. Jed lived life to the fullest.
Jed is survived by his son, Conor Ray, North Charleston, South Carolina; his mother, Irene E. Lewis, Frederick, Maryland; sister-in-law, Cliff Ann Lewis, Shelby, South Carolina; sister, Judy Lewis, Frederick, Maryland; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Therese Lewis, Arroyo Grande, California; brother, Jeffrey Lewis, Frederick, Maryland; brother, Jerry Lewis, Wasilla; sister, Jean Lewis-Antcliff, Frederick, Maryland; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Stephen Elliott, Brooklyn, New York; and many dear nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of Jed’s life is planned at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 3 at the Palmer Elks Lodge on the northshore of Finger Lake.
