Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Anchorage resident, Jennifer Arlyne Spindler, 42, died at home in Anchorage, Alaska on September 21, 2014 due to complications from cancer.
A funeral service will be held on September 27, 2014 at the Alliance Bible Church at 941 E. Dowling Rd., Anchorage, Alaska. A viewing will be held at 5:30 p.m. with a service for Jennifer starting at 6:30 with a dinner reception to follow. A cremation will follow and her ashes will be spread in a private ceremony at a later date.
Jennifer was born on May 4, 1972 in International Falls, Minnesota. She became a resident of Alaska in 1983. She graduated from West High School in Anchorage in 1990 and attended a few semesters at UAA. Jennifer lived in Alaska for 31 years. She worked for Stanley Smith Security in 1992-94, Pinkerton Security in 1994-95, Sears from 2005-13 and then with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game from 2013 to current. Jennifer was active with the Mat-Su Sea Hawkers Booster Club. Her hobbies and interests included outdoor activities, hunting, arts, crafts and reading. She loved her Alaska Aces Hockey and watching Seahawks football games.
The family wrote, “Jennifer touched the lives of hundreds of people; family, friends and strangers alike with her radiant smile, positive attitude, faith in our Lord and unselfish giving. She will be dearly missed by all, loved eternally and remembered forever. “ Go Aces!
Jennifer was preceded in death by her father Steven Mathews in September of 2001.
She is survived by her husband Michael Spindler of Anchorage, AK; her son Joshua Stewart of Great Falls, Montana; daughter Kaylynn Spindler of Tacoma, Washington; grandsons Josiah and Leiland Scarlett of Anchorage; her mother Virginia and Jimmie Oswalt of Wasilla; sister Stephanie Mathews of Wasilla; Brother Benjamin Mathews of Ohio; nephew JJ Jessen and niece Judy Jessen of Anchorage; and nephews James and Jacob Mathews of Wasilla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jennifer’s honor to the Mat-Su Sea Hawkers at the First National Bank of Alaska, Account #30563084.
