Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Jenny Sofia Johanssen, 69, passed away Nov. 26 at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. There will be a memorial service on Dec. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lake Lucille Inn in Wasilla.
Ms. Johanssen was born Dec. 9, 1938 in Anchorage. She graduated from West High School in 1958. She attended Alaska Methodist University and the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Ms. Johanssen was a lifelong Alaska resident. In 1995 she moved to Palmer, where she lived until her passing. She was employed by the state of Alaska Land Office, where she retired in 1998. She enjoyed collecting recipes, bird watching, gardening, cats and books.
She is survived by her daughter, Erika Hudson of Anchorage; son Mikel Erickson of Palmer; daughter Serena Marie Hawkins of Georgia; son Jan Erickson of Anchorage; daughter Kaarie Ane Bates of New Zealand; sister Kathleen Hennessey; grandchildren Amber Robinette, Justin Erickson, Keagan Bates, Annaliese Hudson; and great-grandson Jeremiah Robinette.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stefn Erickson, and brother Michael Doheny.
She will be laid to rest at Anchorage Memorial Park.
