Big Lake Alaskan resident Jerome Allen Crandall, 77 passed away September 24, 2022, while at our home in Big Lake under the care of family and Hospice.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Kings Chapel,1701 N. Lucille St., Wasilla at 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Oct. 6,2022. Pastor Daniel Bracken will be officiating. Finger Food Reception in the foyer.

Jerome was born May 17, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and grew up in Iron River, Michigan. His father was Emery John Crandall and his mother was Mary Elizabeth Holzberger Crandall. Jerome attended the Milwaukee Institute of Technology and graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts and Food Preparation. He worked at the Fox and Hounds Restaurant and the Plankington House in Milwaukee. In 1966-1968 Jerome served in the US Marines during the Vietnam War where he was in contact with Agent Orange. Jerome said, “I fought in the war for 1-year 11mo. and 6 days! “

Jerome married Karen D. Crandall in Reno, Nev. on Feb.19, 1971. They lived at Lake Tahoe; CA for 3 years then moved to Alaska in February 1973. They bought their home at Big Lake in 1975 on a small lake called Birch Lake living there until his death in 2022. After the purchase of our home Jerome worked on the Alyeska Pipeline in Valdez, Alaska from 1975-1977 as a maintenance carpenter. From 1977-1983 Jerome ran and purchased the Artiste Restaurant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His gourmet pizzas and omelets were written up in both the Milwaukee Journal and he was filmed for PM Magazine for his famous and unique recipes and 5 star rated cuisine.

Jerome moved back to our home in Alaska working and retiring from the State of Alaska for the Department of Corrections at the Palmer Pretrial as food supervisor for 25 years from 1985-2010.

Jerome attended Wasilla Assembly, Family Christian Center, and ended his days at Kings Chapel, Wasilla. His love of nature was demonstrated as a teenager where he became a state champion in archery in precision accuracy without using a scope. His love of the Alaskan waters was priceless scouting for whales and sea life in his purple sea craft kayak with his wife Karen of 51 years of marriage.

His family includes Carone and Cecil Lambert of Palmer, Alaska, Simone and Gordon Fletcher of Butler, Ohio, and Moneque and John Logan White of Wasilla, Alaska. His grandchildren are Chorus, Cadence, Christian, and Canon Lambert. Alexia, Juliana, and Jaedyn White. Kearney Fletcher, Kameela, Latrell, and Arlo Ingram, and Karee York Fletcher.

Jerome will be buried at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery at 58-512 Davis Hwy. Anchorage, AK on Oct. 7 at 1:00pm. Contact Karen Crandall (907)354-3331 to submit your first and last name for attending the JBER Memorial.
