Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Jerome M. Motter Sr., 78, died Feb. 14, 2012, at his home in Palmer. He was born June 10, 1933, in Seattle, Wash., to Theodore and Berniec (Hanson) Motter.
Graveside services with military honors for Jerry are at 2:30 p.m., March 5 at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage. Jerry served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy, and after he left the service he worked for the IBEW for 55 years before his retirement in 2006. He belonged to the Save a Patriot foundation and the National Rifle Association, and was a Fur Rondy supporter. He owned his own business after his retirement, Midnight Motters Ceramics, and he was a Volkswagen enthusiast.
Jerry’s family and friends will remember him as a very giving and kind man who enjoyed his extensive family, which includes his sons, Cary and Jerry Jr., his stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also loved his work, was very mechanically inclined and also enjoyed computers and snowmaching.
Surviving are his sons, Cary Motter of California and Jerome Motter Jr.; brother, Eugene Motter of California; grandchildren; and friends he made along his life’s journey.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Shirley in 2005.
Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory Wasilla cared for the family.
