Jim Lindquist, 61, of Sutton passed away on April 18, 2008. He was surrounded by close friends at the Veterans Hospital in Anchorage.
Lindquist was born Sept. 28, 1946 in Aitkin, Minn., the son of Helen (Laine) Lindquist and Emil Lindquist. He grew up on a farm near Palisade, Minn., and graduated from Aitkin High School in 1964. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
After coming home from Vietnam, he lived for a while in California and Palisade. He moved to Sutton where he resided for the past 30 years. He worked in heavy equipment construction starting with the pipeline there. He loved living in the Matanuska Valley, and enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching nature and his garden, his family said.
“His many close friends and neighbors called him ‘Brother Jim,’ and he was always helping out whenever he could,” they wrote. “He was known to all as a good and decent man. He will be so missed.”
Lindquist is survived by his mother Helen Carlson of Grand Rapids, Minn.; sister Ruth Reynolds of Proctor, Minn.; brothers Ken (Hope) Lindquist of Prior Lake, Minn., and Tony and Ben Lindquist of Manahga, Minn.; and nieces, one nephew and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
Lindquist’s family invites his friends to a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at the Sutton Baptist Church. A celebration of life will follow at the Alpine Inn in Sutton.
