Jim Luther passed away on Jan. 8, 2017, at his home in Anchorage. Services will be held at Kehl’s - Legacy Funeral Home located at 11621 Old Seward Hwy on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at 12 p.m. with a slideshow remembrance of his life starting at 11 a.m.
His life’s adventures began August 13, 1960, born in Palmer, Alaska to Mr. Howard C. Luther, Jr. and Joyce Cotter Hammons; he was born and raised as a true Alaskan. Jim worked as a driller, mechanic and master welder and his work transported him throughout Alaska, meeting and befriending many people, encountering wildlife and scenic locations throughout this great state.
He enjoyed and loved his family, friends, his dogs, hunting, fishing, boating, shooting, building models, and almost any activity featured in the great outdoors. His home was always open to others and he was quick to offer anyone in need whatever he had, he was always quick to offer a helping hand whenever one was needed.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Howard C. Luther, Jr. and Joyce Cotter Hammons, his brother’s: Ted and Greg Luther, nieces and nephews: Jamie, Kate Lynn Luther, and Kannon Saling.
He is survived by his wife Vilida; siblings: Fredrick Luther of New York; Cheryl Howdyshell, Stephen Luther, Kathryn Sathers of Alaska; Robert Luther of California and two aunts, many stepchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
A gentle soul, with a heart of gold and the strength to work through the trials and tribulations of whatever life handed him. He will be forever loved and missed, and we will always cherish every moment that we’ve had with him.
