Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Former Wasilla resident Jim Pierce, 44, died Jan. 9, 2013, at home in Las Vegas, Nev.
A memorial service is at 3:30 p.m., June 15 at Church on The Rock.
Jim was born Sept. 14, 1968, in Papeete, Tahiti. He moved to Valdez in 1976, where he attended grade school and junior high, later moving to Soldotna and Wasilla. He attended Soldotna High School and college in Anchorage.
At the time of his death, he was working for the Clark County court system in Las Vegas, Nev., with at-risk youth and gang intervention.
His family wrote: “Jim will be missed by his family and friends, but we take comfort knowing he is at peace with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Surviving are his mother, Patricia Dwinnell; stepfather, Tom Dwinnell; daughter, Savannah Pierce; grandson, Jax; partner, Kelly Hays; stepson and daughters, Jenny, Jesica and Stephen Hays; brother, Keith Pierce; and sisters, Diana Pierce and Christine Swan.
Preceding him in death was his father, Ronald Pierce.
