Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Jimmie (Jim) Allen McNeese, 75, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 27, 2014, at home with his daughter Kalea by his side.
Jim was born in Hazel Park, Mich., on April 9, 1938, to George and Nettie McNeese. His family moved to Alaska when he was an infant, moved back to North Dakota, and then returned to Alaska around 1952. Jimmie graduated from Palmer High School in 1956 and began a 42-year career with Matanuska Maid Creamery. He married Karen Ann Aklestad in 1958, his beautiful wife of 55 years.
His family stated that Jimmie enjoyed camping, hunting and gathering with family and friends. He loved Alaska, always saying it was God’s country, and loved the fact that his children chose to raise their families here as well.
Preceding him in death were his loving wife, Karen; as well as his parents, George and Nettie; and his siblings, Jackie (who died as an infant), Glenn, George Jr., Joan (Jensen), Gwen (Stan Lowe), Ron (Dee) and Ramona (who died as an infant).
Surviving are his three daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn M. and William D. Campbell, Teri A. and Thomas E. Osterkamp Jr., and Karen (Kalea) Jones; five grandchildren, Jessica, Wyatt, Rebecca, Raylea and Jacob; brother-in-law, Robert Jensen; sister-in-law, Esther McNeese; sister-in-law, Marlys McNeese; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Judy Aklestad; sister-in-law, Jane (Aklestad) Sparks; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Jim did not wish to have a service, but there will be a celebration of life for him at his home at 2 p.m., March 15.
