Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident JoAnna Ruth Dennis-Kays, 65, died Oct. 12, 2012, from natural causes at her home.
JoAnna was born April 24, 1947, in South Carolina. She was the daughter of Raymond Hayden and Ethel Mae (Staley) Dennis in Marshall, Mo. JoAnna graduated from Marshall High School and furthered her education at Missouri Valley College. She worked as a medication technician for the state of Missouri, Marshall Rehabilitation Center until she retired.
JoAnna moved to Alaska in 2003 and lived in Anchorage and Palmer. JoAnna was member of the Palmer Senior Center and enjoyed crafts and jewelry making.
The family wrote, “JoAnna was a beloved daughter, mother and grandmother. She was loving and kind to all. JoAnna loved Alaska and loved being with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered and deeply missed.”
Preceding her in death were her parents, Raymond and Ethel Dennis; daughter, Kimberly Kays; and sister, Elizabeth Stipes.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Michael Wisel of Palmer; granddaughters, Taylor Wisel of Palmer; Dalton Wisel of Wasilla and Raven Wisel of Palmer; and grandson, Chase Wisel of Palmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial cards may be sent to the family C/O Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave., Wasilla, AK 99654.
