JoAnne Laura Chartrand, 66, died Jan. 27, 2012, of multiple myeloma, surrounded by her husband and family at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.

She was born Nov. 25, 1945, in Hoona to Harvey and Marietta Williams Sr. She was Raven; T'akdeintaan of the Kaa Shaayi Hit (Severed Head House) and her Tlingit name was Sakoone.

JoAnne grew up in Sitka, graduated from Sitka High School, attended University of Alaska Southeast, retired from SEARHC and then moved to Wasilla.

In 1983, JoAnne met the love of her life, Richard Chartrand, and they married in 1991. The love in their lives has been their dog, Trigger, who took care of her during her battle with cancer when Rich worked. Trigger made sure she felt safe and loved, which was very comforting to all. JoAnne loved her family and was able to spend time her with her daughter, Glenda, and her family after they moved to Wasilla. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Due to her illness she was unable to travel, but kept in contact with them.

JoAnne had a passion for softball, the Seattle Mariners and the NBA. She enjoyed pitching, Mariners spring training and Charles Barkley of the NBA.

Surviving are her soul mate, husband Richard Chartrand, Wasilla; daughter, Glenda (Timothy) Drevas, Wasilla; grandchildren, Jamailyn, Taylor and Isabella Drevas of Wasilla, Levi Harriman (Megan Rose), Jessica Meacock (Holden Bennett) and Krista Meacock, Goldendale, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Marcus and Marcianna Harriman, Juneau, David and Kaylie Harriman, Natalee Meacock and Paige Meacock, Goldendale, Wash.; siblings, Esther Liberty, Juneau, Marion (Gary) Berry, Seattle, Harvey (Kathi) Williams Jr., Pacific, Wash., and Walleen (Danny) Whitson, Sitka; aunts, Mabel Moy and Virginia Moy, Sitka, Uncle Nick Derenoff, Wasilla; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her daughter, Jodine Meacock; parents, Harvey Sr. and Marietta Williams; brother, George Williams; sisters, Harvietta Olson and Dorothy Trivett; nephew, Jay Liberty; and nieces, LaVon Liberty and Amber Whitson.

The dates for summer services in Juneau and Sitka are to be determined. Her ashes will be spread with her daughter, Jodine Meacock.
