Joe Delia, 84, of Skwentna, passed away at home on May 1, 2014.
A celebration of life is at 1:30 p.m., May 18, at Iditarod Headquarters, 2100 Knik-Goose Bay Road, Wasilla.
Joe served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1952. He was the beloved U.S. Postmaster in Skwentna from 1972-2011.
He was a very gentle man who enjoyed everything outdoors and was a big game guide, trapper, gifted craftsman, woodsman, loved the Iditarod and was a vault of information to Fish and Game about the early days where he lived since 1948.
Mostly, Joe loved his family. His wife Norma of 32 years was his constant companion. Joe was so proud of his children.
He leaves behind Christine and Mike Kiger, Patrick and Bessie Delia, Lori Korosecz, Lance and Jennifer Weaver; grandchildren, Jason, Jamie, Michael, Brandi, Cody, Reed, Windi, Scott, David, Ethan, Sydnee, and the late Luke Delia; and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, and Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine; father, Joseph Delia Sr.; and his brother, Wallace.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate to the Hospice of Anchorage, 2612 E. Northern Lights, Anchorage, AK 99508.
Arrangements were by Janssen’s Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
