John D. Brown II

Wasilla resident John D. Brown II, 22, died in his home on April 19, 2008 due to an unfortunate accident. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel. Viewing will begin at 3 p.m. A wake will be held for close family and friends after the services commence.

Brown was born Oct. 8, 1985 in Fresno, Calif. He resided with his father, John D. Brown I, until May of 2000 when he moved to Alaska to live with his mother, Kimberly Mills. He was the eldest of two sons. James Brown, 18, still resides in Kingman, Ariz. Throughout the years, John had gained two brothers and a sister: Dean “DJ” Collins, Kristin Collins and Cody Brown.

His family wrote, “John was a very determined person in every aspect of his life. He had a strong work ethic and had extensive knowledge and experience in the construction industry. He was a crucial part of his families’ lives. He was very loved and respected for the man he came to be. John became a father at a young age; and with that he proved himself to be an amazing person. His daughter Brandi, 5, was his rock, just as he was to many of the people around him.

“John enjoyed being with close friends and family, hunting, fishing and camping. With a simple sentence, he could make everyone in the room smile and laugh out loud. He had a very comical, outgoing personality and a very passionate, loving heart. His family and friends were his life and the same goes for all of them as well.”

John is survived by his wife, Megan Brown; daughter Brandi Brown; brothers James Brown, Dean Collins, Brandon Mills and Harley Mills; sisters Kristin Collins and Ashley Mills; father John D. Brown I; grandmothers Agatha Stewart and Gensty Roberson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Preceding him in death were his grandfather James Roberson; uncle Les Hall; and mother Kimberly Mills.

“John will be dearly loved and missed,” his family added. “It was a very sudden and unexpected misfortune that took him away from us. It was a very hard time in his life as his mother, Kimberly Mills, whom he held very dearly in his heart passed away on Jan. 31. With her, went a large part of John, which created an empty void in his life.

“John will always be in our hearts, and he will live on through his daughter, as well as all of his family. He will never be forgotten and our memories will carry him with us as each day goes by. He was a very admirable and honorable man, and no one will ever replace him in our hearts.”
