Longtime Valley resident John Furbush, 51, passed away Sept. 12, 2014, at his home. A memorial service with a bonfire is planned Oct. 4 at his residence at 4951 W. Greensward Dr. in Wasilla with a potluck to follow. Bring a dish to share as well as camp chairs and your own drinks.
He was born Aug. 2, 1964, in Herkimer, New York, to Clarence and Carolyn Furbush. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1981. He and his family came to Alaska in May 1968. He worked on the North Slope as a roustabout and spill tech for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmachining, helping others and doing things with family and friends.
John was a volunteer firefighter with the Palmer Fire Department for many years and then with the Butte Fire Department for more years.
John’s family writes, “John’s love for his family, generosity and kind heart was an inspiration to all who cared for him.”
Surviving are his father, Clarence Furbush; three sisters; two brothers; many nieces and nephews; and an aunt and uncle.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Paul Furbush; and by his mother, Carolyn Furbush.
