Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident John L. Sanders died at his home with his wife and daughters by his side after a courageous fight against cancer July 17, 2011.
A memorial Mass in John’s honor is at 11 a.m., July 30 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Palmer.
John was born Feb. 24, 1963, in Minnesota and had many friends and family in the Foley and St. Cloud, Minn., area.
John joined the Air Force in 1983 and retired in 2004, and after his retirement he continued to work as a contractor at Elmendorf Air Force Base with SAIC.
He loved his country, Alaska and all the fishing he could find along the way, but above all he loved his family.
Surviving are his wife, Christine of Wasilla; children, Ryan, Racheal, Joseph, Theresa and Faith; father and mother, Larry and Marilyn Sanders of Shaurita, Ariz.; and sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Terry Markfort of St. Cloud, Minn.
Valley Funeral Home and Crematory Wasilla cared for the family.
