Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Former resident of Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla, and, one-time bush resident on Peters Creek between Petersville and Trapper Creek, John M. Barrett (born in 1944), died peacefully on Dec. 12, 2016 in the care of his family and hospice.
During his life, he was a skilled cabinet maker, carpenter, construction worker, fisherman, hunter and trapper. He spent his time in both the Pacific Northwest and in Alaska where he built a cabin on Peters Creek and later fished out of Yakutat. He had an amazing memory, a head for math, and a wry sense of humor as well as being very practical and pragmatic. To quote his grandchild, “he loved his family, fishing, and SpongeBob.”
He is survived by his three children (Diana, Ben, and Adam), grandchild, his three siblings, and numerous cousins.
