Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

John R. Taylor, 89, died June 25, 2014, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer after a lengthy illness.
A celebration of life is at 2 p.m., July 7 at Christ First United Methodist Church, 5137 W. Fairview Loop in Wasilla.
Surviving are his wife, Joan; daughters, Brenda Wimett and Tanja Zerkie; sons, Jeb Taylor and Mark Taylor; and numerous grandchildren.
John was born April 20, 1925, in Springfield, Illinois. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired federal mediator for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
John and Joan moved to Alaska in 2001 to spend quality time with their grandchildren. John was a charter member of the Wasilla Lions Club, a volunteer for the Wasilla Food Pantry, and a member of Christ First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wasilla Food Pantry.
Legacy Funeral Homes in Wasilla made the arrangements.
