John W. Horton, 75, died April 15, 2012, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer. He was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Syracuse, N.Y.
John was a special, caring and wonderful man, with a heart made of gold. He never knew a stranger and believed there was good in everyone. When he called you his friend, he meant it. He would give the shirt off his back. He was a friend until the end.
John was in the Korean War. He came to Alaska in 1968. He worked laying seismic water pipe up north. He was a pipefitter and also worked in electronics.
John married Alvina in 1977. They were married 34 years.
He loved fishing, hunting and camping.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Ida Mae Gardener; brother, Leo; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Surviving are his wife, Alvina Horton; and daughter, Debra Catalano and Sam of North Fort Myers, Fla.
Services are at 11 a.m., May 1 at Sacred Heart Church, 1201 E. Bogard Road, Wasilla.
Legacy Kehl’s Palmer Chapel in Palmer cared for the family.
