Houston resident Jon Robert Ehrman, 43, passed away June 23, 2010, at his home, due to a three-year battle with lung cancer. There will be a family gathering and barbecue at Rabidoux River at a later date this summer. There will also be another family gathering at Smith River Falls in Smith River, Ore.
In 2004, Mr. Ehrman moved to Alaska, living in Willow from 2004 to 2006. In 2006, he left Willow, moving to Houston and calling it his home.
Mr. Ehrman was employed by the Frontiersman from 2004 until 2007. He loved football, basketball, baseball and golf.
“Anyone and everyone that knew Jon knew that he was a pretty simple man,” his family wrote. “He loved his family, his job and he loved printing the newspaper. He first started working as a delivery boy on a bicycle when he was 11 in Oregon and enjoyed the newsprint so much that he learned to print it. He loved any and all sports. We would laugh at him as times because he would watch a game and then watch two or three ESPN shows to watch the highlights. That was his love.
“He said, ‘If there is one thing I get out of this, it would be to see that my kids and others learn from my mistake. The partying, heavy drinking and smoking, as fun as it was at the time, now I suffer and my family suffers until I ultimately die. It is real, so very real. If I could do it over, I would do so many things differently.’ The pain is over now, he can rest in peace. We love and miss you, Dad.”
Mr. Ehrman is survived by his wife, Hannah Ehrman of Houston; sons, Levi, Gene, Isaac and Bryce, all of Houston; son, Jeremy, of Oregon; daughter, Nicole, of Oregon; granddaughter, Leanna, of Alaska; mother, Jane L. Ehrman; sister, Fauna Ehrman; nephews, Johnny and Jared, and nieces, Missy and Tiesha, all of Oregon, as well as many brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick Ehrman; stepfather, Richard Otto, and grandson, Jon Robert Ehrman.
If family and friends have any cards or special pictures of him, please send them to P.O. Box 298073, Wasilla, AK 99629.
His ashes will be scattered at Smith River Falls in Smith River, Ore.
