Known as “Shorty,” Joseph Gilbert Turcotte, 87, died May 31, 2014.
He was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Hansboro, North Dakota, to Abert and Amanda (Gemeraut) Turcotte.
He was a World War II veteran who served with the U.S. Navy in Okinawa, Japan. After an honorable discharge from the service, Shorty returned home to North Dakota.
He came to Alaska in 1969 and worked as a Master Heavy Equipment Special Mechanic for many years, for which he received numerous awards. Shorty could fix anything!
Shorty loved Alaska and all it had to offer.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him; especially his friends at Wasilla Senior Center.
Shorty is survived by his loving wife, Dawn; 10 children and their spouses; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Per Shorty’s request, there will be no memorial service.
