Josephine Frances Smith

Palmer resident Josephine Frances Smith (Hallahan), 63, passed away at Providence Alaska Medical Center on May 1, 2010.

A service will be held today at Manna Baptist Church in Palmer. The viewing will begin at 1 p.m. and the service will start at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steve Cardin officiating.

Josephine was born Nov. 11, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pa. She became an Alaska resident in 1971 and settled down in Palmer. She was employed as a front desk clerk at the Valley Hotel in Palmer. Josephine was also affiliated with Palmer Lions Club and Manna Baptist Church. She was awarded President and Secretary of the Year for Palmer Lions Club, and also received a volunteer certificate of appreciation.

Her hobbies were fishing, poker and Pogo games on the computer.

Her family writes; “She loved being with her family. She had wanted to move back East, but didn’t want to leave her children and grandchildren. She was a Palmer Lion, and did a lot of volunteer work with them, and looked forward to Lion retreats.”

She is survived by children Kimberly Boggs (Kevin), Wendy Smith and Curtis Smith; grandchildren Cheyanne Smith, Danica Smith-Boggs, Taryn Boggs, Kaitlin Smith, Ashlin Smith, Nadesta Golley, Michelle Golodoff, Kourtney Hartman and Matthew Boggs.

Arrangements were entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes-Kehl’s Palmer Chapel.
