Is with greatest sorrow to announce that Joshua “Josh” Andrew McCool, 29, after a long hard battle with cancer passed away on October 8, 2020 . Joshua was born in Anchorage, Alaska on November 1, 1990 to his mother Wendy McCool and father Jonathan Shields and spent most of his adult life in Wasilla, Alaska. Joshua managed many Papa John’s restaurants all over Alaska. Joshua graduated from Bartlett High School in 2009. His first job was at Totem Movie Theater which he loved so much. Josh was always trying new careers; he was also an apprentice at Brinks Electric Co. with his Uncle Kevin. His biggest passion was fishing and sports and at that, mostly football. His favorite team was the Minnesota Vikings, but he also loved the Philadelphia Flyers, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Sr. He loved collecting souvenirs of his favorite teams. If he was not collecting souvenirs then you would find him at his second home on the riverbanks fishing, dip netting, and enjoying time camping with family and friends. Josh's family was his heart. Joshua is survived by his fiancé Shannon Mitchell and his two sons, Casey and Joshua Jr. of Wasilla, Alaska; his mother, Wendy McCool of Anchorage; father, Jonathan Shields; siblings Michael, James, Jazmine, and Justice McCool; Steven and Jordan Deveroux of Anchorage, Alaska; Uncle Kevin, Seton, and Aunt Karena McCool and Grandma Yvonne Strege of Anchorage, Alaska and many other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; his Uncle Ronald Shields of Washington State, Godfather Jon Head; some of his great friends that stood by him, Ralph Tumanda, Joshua and April Culbertson, Corey Robinson of Wasilla, Alaska. He was loved and supported by many, many more. He was beyond thankful for everyone that stayed by his side through the darkest time of his life. Josh had the biggest heart and so much love to give to anyone who crossed his path. Josh lit up the room with his smile when he walked in and not long after would you be gasping for air from laughing because he loved to make you laugh. He was always the biggest goofball and just a light in your life. Joshua will deeply be missed every single day. We love you! We will forever carry your memory in our hearts. #LLJOSHUA Matthew 5:4 - Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
