December 11, 1978 - October 20, 2024

Joshua W. Culbertson passed away on October 20, 2024, at the age of 45, after a courageous but brief battle with metastatic cancer. Born on December 11, 1978, in Anchorage, Josh was a lifelong Alaskan with a deep love for his family, community, and the outdoors. He is survived by his devoted wife, April, their young son, Hatcher, and another son expected early next year, who will carry forward Josh's warmth and legacy. He also leaves behind his parents, Bill and Randy (Lacher); brothers, Rob and Isaac; and a large circle of friends and extended family.

Known as a towering yet tender-hearted man with boundless generosity, Josh was always eager to spend time with those he cared about or offer a helping hand. Working with children was one of his greatest joys, and he spent many years supporting the young people in his community. Driving kids to and from school was more than a job for Josh. He often said they 'filled his cup every day' with their laughter and stories, and he took pride in creating a safe, welcoming space for them.

A lover of the outdoors, Josh found peace in Alaska's natural beauty and cherished time spent fishing, especially with his grandfather, Bob Lacher Sr., who passed away earlier this year. Their time together on the water was a treasured memory that brought Josh happiness and connection to his family's history.

Josh's memory will endure as that of a gentle giant who shared his heart generously, found joy in life's simplest pleasures, and will always be remembered for his love of others. He was a much-loved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.

Though no memorial service is planned at this time, a celebration of Josh's life will be scheduled in the coming months to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, in recognition of Josh's dedication to children and community values that defined his life and will continue to inspire all those who knew him.
