Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Joy Marie Malette Couturiaux, 58, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of July 27, 2013 in Wasilla.
Memorial service and celebration of her life is at 2 p.m., Aug. 5 at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave., Wasilla.
Joy was born Nov. 6, 1954, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., to Robert and Rita Malette.
Joy had the biggest heart and would help anyone, anytime and anyway she could. Her greatest loves were her children, family and friends. She commercial fished and crabbed in the 1970s and 1980s, where she gained a great love for the ocean and has always missed it.
Preceding her in death were her stepfather, John Brainard; her father, Robert Malette; and a sister, Rene.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Jason, their children Kobe and Connor; daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Pat, their children, Katelyn and Chase; son and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Jamie, their children, Kaylee and Peyton; mother, Rita Brainard; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Val, their children, Lani and Alen; brother, Dave and his daughters, Lisa Marie and Jessica; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Jacque, their children, Rachel, David and Kayla; brother, Danny and his children Shelby, Joshua and Connor; a granddaughter, Brooke; and a sister, Gayle Malette.
Joy will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
