Joyce Aileen Johnson

Joyce Aileen Johnson, 55, of Wasilla passed away suddenly on April 24, 2014, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital.

She was born on September 26, 1958, in Gastonia, North Carolina, to Grady Meredith and Joy Tilly, and was also raised by her stepfather, Morris Combs.

She moved to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, in 1982 with her loving husband Ron Nichols, and they raised their family here in the Mat-Su Valley. She worked as a hairdresser for many years, at various local hair salons. She loved spending time with her family, including her many grandchildren. She had many hobbies, such as crocheting, water-skiing, gardening, and horse-back riding, and she was also an avid reader.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ron Nichols, her mother, Joy Tilly, her father, Grady Meredith, and one granddaughter, Naturelle Mariah Nichols.

She is survived by her stepfather, Morris Combs; her siblings, Linda Stankiewicz, Gail Thompson, Belinda Star Wilson, Allen Combs and Eugene Combs,; her children, Sage Tasker (husband: Bill Tasker) , Megan Nichols, Sabrina Nichols-Holbert (Husband: Gary Holbert), Damian Nichols (wife: Jessica Nichols), Cheryl Nichols II, Joseph Nichols II (Wife: Stephanie Nichols), and her grandchildren Robbie Reinhart, Drew Hoeldt, Chelsey Thon, Rickel Nichols, Blair Nichols, Kaylani Nichols, Isabel Nichols, Taylor Jerick, Hayden Shuldham, Rider Young, and Valhalla Young, Chanele Nichols, Joseph Nichols III, Justice Nichols and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned at 3 p.m., May 9, at the Valley Funeral Home and Crematory, 151 E Herning Ave., Wasilla, with cremation to follow.
