On May 7, 2014, at her home in Palmer, Judith “Judy” Esther Granquist, 43, went to be with the Lord. She won her battle against cancer that she fought for 11 years and is now cancer and pain free in Heaven.

She was born in Willows, Calif., on May 14, 1970, to Arthur and Geraldine McGee. She was a 1988 graduate of Orland High School in Orland, Calif. In 1992, she graduated from University of LaVerne in Laverne, Calif., with a BA in Theater Arts.

She came to Alaska in 2004, one year after being diagnosed with cancer. She said numerous times that life is too short, you must live your dreams.

She was a valued employee at Medical Park Family Care in Anchorage for nine years, from 2004 to 2013. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Palmer and was active in her church working in numerous drama events and many other projects throughout the years. She also worked with Valley Performing Arts. She enjoyed community theater, camping, ATV’s and reading. She will be missed by many friends throughout Alaska and the Lower 48.

Judy was preceded in death by her grandparents: Nora Domenighini, June Loewen, and Elbert McGee; niece, Erin Kringle and nephew, Jeremiah McGee.

Judy leaves behind her loving husband of 18 years, Eric Granquist; two sons, Christian McGee (23) and Curtis Granquist (15), all of Palmer; her mother, Geraldine McGee and father, Arthur McGee both of Orland, Calif.; two brothers, Matthew McGee (Kathleen) of Lawton, OK, and Mark McGee of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Mary Deal (Ted) of Palmer, Alaska, and Ruth Kringle (Mark) of Lacey, Wash.; mother-in-law, Margaret Granquist and father-in-law, Harold Granquist, both of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; brother-in-law, Dave Granquist (Jan) of Vallejo Calif.; sister-in-law, Sue Soniville (Tom) of Boise, Idaho; five nephews and four nieces.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 17, at noon, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Palmer, with Pastor Bruce Rowell officiating.

Arrangements entrusted to Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Wasilla.
