Judy Kay (Sager) Lane
Judy Kay (Sager) Lane, 77, left this world on March 23, 2021, at her Wasilla residence after a lengthy illness.
She was born on August 12,1943, in Deadwood, SD, and came to Alaska in 1964. She lived in Delta Jct., Willow, Fairbanks, Anchorage, Knik, and has resided in the Palmer/Wasilla area since 1983.
As a result of her varied careers in transportation, journalism, insurance, and accounting fields, coupled with working as a musician and managing, leasing and working in many bars, Judy had acquired many life long friends, hundreds of acquaintances, and at least a million memories. Add to the above careers the sports of Rodeo and horse showing, 23 seasons cooking in hunting camps, 33 consecutive years attending the end of Iditarod in Nome, and two different hitches on the North Slope – well, she was hard pressed to go anywhere without someone recognizing her.
Judy is survived by her son, David Sager Lane of Anchorage; grandson, Taylor T. Lane of Las Vegas; daughter and son-in-law, Hydee Kay and Allen Hamrick of Dumas, TX; granddaughter and husband, Kaylee M and Evan Schmidt of Borger, TX; and great granddaughter, Swayze Rae Schmidt.
A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at the Elks Lodge on Finger Lake, 2600 N Barry’s Resort Drive, Wasilla, with doors open at 2 PM. A jam session will be taking place. Musicians, coordinate with Rod at 907-203-0366 and bring your instrument. Call Food Coordinator, Tara, at 907-982-7678 for dishes for the potluck. Donations can be made to cancer research in Judy’s name.
