My mother, Julianne M. Laskowski, 80, passed away peacefully on February 03, 2018 at home. She was born in Libertyville, Illinois on Feb. 15, 1937, to Ethel and Angelo Calanca. Subsequently, she moved to Round Lake, Illinois where she spent her youth. As a student, she excelled at her studies and upon graduating high school, was awarded a scholarship to nursing school in Chicago, Illinois. In 2007 my mother and I relocated to Palmer, Alaska from the city of Chicago. Upon arriving, she said that it was like "coming back home" because she had grown up in a small town. During my entire life, my mother taught me to be strong, ethical and to love family and friends with an open heart. I couldn't have chosen a more supportive mother or role model. I consider myself truly blessed. When I lost my mother on February 03 I didn't just lose my mother, I lost my best friend and confidant. I'll miss her terribly, but I know that she's at peace.
