Kenai resident Katherine Murphy, 69, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at home.

A celebration of her life will be 4 p.m., Nov. 9 at Eagles Aerie No. 3525 on the Kenai Spur Highway. Finger foods will be served, so please bring your memories.

Kathy was born July 1, 1944, in Brodus, Mont. She moved to Alaska shortly after being born and lived in Palmer, graduating from Palmer High School in 1963. She had also lived in Delta Junction and Seward before moving to Kenai.

Kathy worked at Central Peninsula General Hospital and also owned her own business.

She was a member of Eagles Aerie No. 3525, American Legion and the Moose Lodge.

Kathy enjoyed playing cards, gambling, cooking, traveling and helping others.

“Kathy was also known as ‘Mother Nature,’ which was the name of the health food store she owned and operated in Soldotna for many years,” her family wrote. “Kathy was a loving wife and very devoted mother. She gave of herself unselfishly to her family and friends. She was very kind and compassionate to all she met. Kathy was also an 11-year breast cancer survivor and she courageously fought COPD for many years as well. Her family will miss her greatly. She is gone but will never be forgotten.”

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Carroll Murphy; daughters, Lisa Netherton, Annette Barrett and Terri Turnbull; son, Kevin Johnson, all of Kenai; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Max and Ruth Hodsdon and Pat and Gloria Hodsdon, all of Palmer.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
