Kathy E. Thompson-Ford, 48, died July 6, 2010, at her home in Wasilla.
Memorial services will be held at the AmVets Post 9 in Wasilla at 7 p.m. Friday, July 16.
Kathy was born Jan. 16, 1962, in Pine River, Minn., where she grew up and attended school. Kathy moved to Alaska in 1982. She was an Alaska State Fair volunteer and served the fair during the 1980s in security and the canning department with friend JoAnn Smith. More recently, she served in the arts and crafts area assisting with the beautiful displays. She was also a fan of Capitol Speedway.
Her family wrote, “She had many friends, neighbors and extended family, and dearest to her was her ‘Twisted Sisters’ (she was their ‘Mean Josephine’). All will miss her dearly. Kathy loved planting, helping neighbors and friends, and spending time with those she loved. She was always so proud to have been the wife of a retired Army man, John Ford.”
Kathy’s family would like to thank all of those wonderful people who loved and helped her through the years, but especially in these last months of cancer treatment.
Kathy is survived by her husband, John Ford of Wasilla; father, Joe Thompson of Oregon; mother-in-law, Frances Kelso of Georgia; sisters, Holly Turcotte of Nevada, Audrey Squires of Washington, and Etta Bern and Fayette Locnikar of Minnesota; brothers, Tyrone Thompson of Minnesota and Brett Thompson of Arizona; four nieces and eight nephews, including niece Keely Latimer, who resides in Palmer.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Greta Thompson; niece, Cheryl Thompson; and father-in-law, Gary Kelso.
Arrangements entrusted to the Cremation Society of Alaska. An online memorial page may be signed at alaskacremation.com.
