Katy P. Nichols, 83, died due to complications of dementia on May 2, 2012, at the home of her son in Palmer, where she had lived since 2008.
Katy was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Texarkana, Texas. She lived her adult years in Chidester, Ark. Katy’s remains will be taken to the Lower 48.
Katy was happiest when outside. She loved taking walks with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always had a vegetable garden that she enjoyed tending, as well as her beautiful flowers. The simple things, such as yard work, are what gave her joy.
Katy was an amazing mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and a very strong-willed person who will be truly missed.
Surviving are her son, and daughter-in-law, Tom and Edith Hooks of Palmer; son, Jimmy Hooks of Kearns, Utah; granddaughters, Mariah of Fairbanks, Barbara of Palmer and Sarah of Kearns, Utah; grandsons, Jon of Salt Lake City and Jessie of Kearns, Utah, great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Nathan and Mariahlee of Palmer, Ashley of Fairbanks, Sabrina, Abbey and Jack of Kearns, Utah, and Cherie of Salt Lake City; and one great-great-grandson, baby Nathan of Palmer.
The family would like to thank home health, hospice and the nurse’s aides who took care of Katy during her illness. They are truly wonderful, caring people.
Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory Wasilla cared for the family.
