Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Kimberley Denise Kornfeind, 56, passed away Oct. 13, 2013, at home in Palmer. A service is at 3 p.m., Oct. 19 at The United Protestant Church (Church of a Thousand Logs) on S. Denali and Elmwood St. in Palmer. A celebration of life and potluck are at 5 p.m., Saturday at the Elks Lodge, No. 1842 on N. Barrys Resort Dr., in Wasilla. Kimberley was born Dec. 4, 1956, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Russell and Audrey Blain. The family moved to Anchorage in 1958 and Kimberley graduated from Dimond High School there. She married the love of her life and best friend David Kornfeind in September 1979, and they moved to Palmer where they resided ever since. Kimberley was a retired Certified Nurse’s Aide which, with the great compassion she had for people, was her perfect job.
Kimberley loved spending time with family and grandchildren, cooking, gardening and loved to travel. Her family wrote, “Kim was a wonderful loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was full of grace and beauty and had the ability to light up any room she walked into. She was a true Alaskan who loved all the beauty of the state. She had a great compassion for people and all animals. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.”
She is survived by husband, David Kornfeind of Palmer; daughters, Ashley Kornfeind (Justin McMullin) of Anchorage and Lindsay Henderson of Palmer; grandchildren, Bayley Sandvik of Anchorage and Dayton Henderson of Palmer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pam and Don LaRose of Washington and Sidney and Jack Colwell of Arizona; and stepfather, Jack Osborn of Arizona.
Preceding her in death was her mother; father; brother, Christopher Blain; and cousin, Su Gierermann.
Arrangements were entrusted to Kehl’s Palmer Mortuary.
