Kimberly Renee Itano Cruver, 51, died Oct. 3, 2012. in Sparks, Nev., from cancer.
Kim was the beloved wife of Jeffrey Cruver, and daughter to Frank Itano and Rosalie Rogers of Yreka, Calif., who preceded her in death.
Kim was born May 19, 1961, in Yreka, Calif., and was raised with her sisters Tomi, Andrea and Rhonda. She grew up with countless friends, and graduated from Yreka Union High School in 1979. Kim attended college for a year, then worked for the Forest Service until 1983, when her adventurous nature led her to the Bering Sea. Kim worked as a cook on crab fishing boats, and during a trip out she met Jeff. They married the following summer in 1986.
Kim ran their photo business in Dutch Harbor until they moved off the island to the Mat-Su Valley in 1990. She became a real estate agent and worked in the area while raising her nephew, Timothy. She made many connections in her community and left a big part of her heart in Alaska when Kim and Jeff moved to Fernley, Nev., in 2010 to be closer to family.
Kim loved to cook, and enjoyed sharing food with those around her. She was an avid gardener and a dynamic bowler. Kim enjoyed engaging with others and had an alluring spirit that left a mark. Her smile was brilliant, her laughter contagious. She was genuine, compassionate and shared whatever she had with others. Kim held her friends and family close, and loved being connected with her nieces and nephews.
Kim held on to life with stamina and grace, and her family and friends will seek relief from their sadness by knowing she is released from her pain. Gratitude is expressed to the family members, friends and nurses who helped care for Kim and provided support and encouragement throughout her illness.
A private gathering honoring Kim is planned from 2 to 5 p.m., Oct. 20 at Settler’s Bay Lodge. In memory of Kim, please consider a donation to support ovarian cancer awareness.
